Season 6 ended this year and it has fans craving for more. The series won the Emmys comedy category and broke all records for most wins in a single season for comedy series.
The show is not on Netflix in the US and six other countries. Schitt’s Creek was created by Eugene and Dan Levey, who also play the lead characters. Catherine O’ Hara and Annie Murphy later joined the cast of the Rose family.
What is Schitt’s Creek about?
In case you have not watched it, Schitt’s Creek follows the lives of a family of four people—Johnny, Moira, David, and Alex– who are forced to move to a small rural town after they have lost their immense family fortune.
Their lives take a complete 180 turn; however, despite the many hurdles, they learn to accept what life has thrown at them and adjust to their surroundings. As they evolve, they meet friends—Ronald Schitt, his wife, Jocelyn, and Stevie Budd, the motel clerk–who become family.
Schitt’s Creek Season 6
Season 6 went out with a bang this year. The last episode streamed in April 2020 marking the end of the show. This season was all about new beginnings for the entire Rose family.
After spending so many years living in motel rooms where they come to understand life, they will be heading off in their own directions and starting new chapters.
Johnny and Moira are going off to California and Alexis is heading to New York.
David, on the other hand, chose a path that was a bit more different–or perhaps the same depending on how you look at it. He is going to settle down in this town along with his new husband Patrick.
Stevie wants to fulfill her goal of setting up Rosebed Motels wherever she can. So she will only come around when she is not busy with that.
On Schitt’s Creek Season 7
So folks, some bad news for all of you die-hard fans out there. There might not be a season 7 at all. Of course, you can always sign a petition to bring it back.
But for the most part, it probably won’t happen. And here’s why: When Dan Levy developed this show, he always thought there would only be 5 seasons. He did not want to stretch it and make the storyline distasteful. In his own words,
“the reason we ended the show in the first place was because I never wanted it to get stale. I never wanted to overstay our welcome. I wanted this show to have a legacy that people return to. I wanted it to be included in conversations about great series and not just a great season.”
He also later told Variety that he wanted the show to go on, but that it was quality over quantity. And that is how it was. Initially, the father-son duo wanted a series that would last for five seasons.
However, the show became such a hit that following the release of season 4 in 2018, it was awarded a two-season renewal. Hence, season 6 came into existence. However, the decision to end season 6 was based on creativity and not necessarily on ratings. So that is another piece of bad news. Sorry, folks!
What season 7 of Schitt’s Creek could have looked like?
While there is no immediate plan to bring it back, we never know when a re-boot might happen, right? Charmed came back, as did the chilling adventures of Sabrina. So you never know when you might be able to see your favorite show on TV again.
So if Season 7 could back, we would think there could be plenty of storylines it could follow. For instance, Alexis is pretty close to her parents and her brother’s family. She could pop over to see them whenever she wanted.
Plus, when Moira’s Sunrise Bay revival is done filming, she and her husband could move to New York and live closer to their daughters. It is definitely going to start that family drama again. The one we will be missing.
David and Patrick don’t really want to start a family. They are happy living without any kids. There is no drama, no added responsibility and you have all the time to yourself.
Maybe they will rethink their decision and decide they want a baby after all. It would be fun to see the pair as parents. We’re sure Johnny and Moira would make amazing grandparents.
There is plenty of other stuff we would like to see. For instance, can you imagine what would happen if Patrick ran for Moira’s seat on the council just to annoy Ronnie? That would be fun to watch. Or the adventures of Patrick, David, and Twyla as they come to visit Alexis in New York.
Maybe the producers could have Moira and Johnny attend a reception in LA for the premiere of Sunrise Bay and they run into their old friends.
Do you know the ones who look down on other people? That would make a fantastic storyline. Looks like we have given the producers plenty of ideas to work with. They don’t really need to think of too many ideas. They can probably work with this.
Schitt’s Creek – A reunion
The closest thing to season 7 you might get is a reunion. The creators are open to it if a necessary story comes up. So you do have that to look forward to.
The cast will include the main characters, of course, and some of the supporting ones. Savor it when comes out, folks! That might be the last time they will grace your screens. So make every second count.
Final thoughts
So, Schitt’s Creek is done now, and there is no possibility, as of now, that it will ever return. However, that does not mean that we lose hope. Perhaps the creators will decide that there is plenty more to talk about.
After all, all of the main characters are starting new lives. There will be so much drama, it will be fun to watch! But for now, you can go ahead and binge-watch it on Netflix!
