Lovecraft Country just wrapped up the first season. It didn’t hold back in anything, by the looks of it. The characters on the show are resilient, thanks to life which keeps knocking them down.
In the finale, they were given another series of curveballs when Attics played by Jonathan Majors had the lifeblood squeezed from his system. He had to leave behind his loved ones. Of course, this also meant that he left behind his unborn child and Leti.
What is Lovecraft Country About?
It is based on a 2016 book of the same name by author Matt Ruff. It looks into the Lovecraftian horrors from the mind of the racist horror author H.P. Lovecraft, especially in Black history.
The show is set in 1950s America during the Jim Crow era. It follows the lives of Atticus, Leti (Jurnee Smollett), Montrose (Michael K. Williams), and other friends and family in their lives as they clash with a mysterious group called Sons of Adam.
Within the dark fantasy events, real historical events are buried such as the death of Emmet Till, the Tulsa race massacre in 1921, and the social issues with regards to segregation.
About Lovecraft Country season 2
Season 1 ended with some loose ends, as we mentioned earlier. It has a lot of unanswered questions that we are hoping season 2 will answer. This brings us to our question. Is there a season 2 of Lovecraft Country?
This is a tough question to answer since no one knows exactly what is going to happen. In an interview, showrunner Misha Green stated that “Nothing is official yet.” She also told Rolling Stone that the teams are “in talks with HBO. I’m excited about exploring season 2 about what we have in mind.”
So right now, there is nothing concrete about the information and there is nothing we can say with absolute certainty. Since the finale aired just a couple of weeks ago—18th October 2020—HBO will take some time before giving a green single. It will review the ratings of the whole season.
However, since the ratings are pretty good, it seems that there should be no problem in renewing the season. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Jurnee Smollett told Deadline’s New Hollywood Podcast, “I mean, it would be so wrong to folks, the way episode ten ends, to not do another season
Who’s in Lovecraft Country Season 2?
It seems we will have to say goodbye to Tic. He is dead and buried, just as Ji-Ah prophesized. Before you get ahead of yourself and think that there is some kind of a twist just waiting to happen, let us just break it down to you: “He’s dead,” Majors confirmed to Entertainment Weekly.
It’s just how it is.
Sadly, things had to come to this point. He is heartbroken that things did not work out for his character. However, he understood that this was something that had to happen. Otherwise, the story just could not have continued.
Other characters are still out there and coming to terms with the less of Atticus. So you will see the return of Leti, Montrose, Hippolyta (Aunjanue), Diana (Jada Harris), and Ji-Ah, played by Jamie Chung.
Ruby (Wunmi Mosaku), Christina (Abbey Lee Kershaw) / William (Jordan Patrick Smith), and Uncle George (Courtney B Vance) are all dead.
So, most likely they will not be returning when the show comes back. However, there is no ruling out that they might come in another form. We’ll just have to wait and watch when the time comes.
When Will Lovecraft Country Season 2 Air?
Season 1 graced our screens on August 16 on HBO. That means there is no chance that the show will return even early next year. However, the show is expected to come back sometime in summer 2021.
It’s difficult to get the exact date. Especially considering the fact that the Coronavirus has taken over the nation. Production crews have to work from home and people are banned from gathering. So we can’t really think of a date.
Lovecraft Country Season 2 – The Plot
Once again, that is up to the writers’ imaginations, and considering that they have wowed us with season 1, we presume season 2 would be the same. If not better that is. However, one important twist is that the book, on which the show is based, was adapted in season 1. There is nothing left to it.
In an interview with Deadline, Green said, “With the finale I wanted to bring the arc of the first season to a close, while opening a door to the next. I envision a second season that carries on the spirit of Matt Ruff’s novel [of the same name] by continuing to reclaim the genre storytelling space that people of color have typically been left out of.”
We believe the second season could explore a different side. For instance, it could show how the Black community is thriving in their new magical gift that are only exclusive to them. None of the white people have any say in it. That should make them powerful, shouldn’t it?
These are only some of the things that we have on season 2. Sorry, folks. There are just so many possibilities. The storyline could take on a different turn. But that is part of the fun, isn’t it?
Lovecraft Country Season 2 Trailer
Since we don’t really have a verdict on the approval of season 2, we can’t say when the trailer will drop. However, it may drop just a month or two before the premiere date. Expect a lot of suspense and drama.
So, folks, we have talked about the Lovecraft Country. If you have not watched it, you definitely should. It is perfect, especially if you want to educate yourself a bit on the plights of Black Americans.
It will definitely shake you to your core and want you craving for more. For the existing viewers, you can always binge-watch it on HBO. That is enough for now. See you next time.
