Will there be a Season 7 of Vikings?

Seven years back we met Ragnar Lothbrok, a farmer from the Nordic era. He dreamed of exploring and raiding far away lands across the ocean. That started a legacy that we know as Vikings. Even after Ragnar died in the show, the popularity of the series surprisingly didn’t decrease. Instead, it continued rising as the fans got accustomed to Ragnar’s sons and their adventures.

Vikings came to an end with the sixth season three months back in Dec 2020. It is believed this will be the end of the famous series and the culmination of the saga of Ragnar and his sons. Fans were so hooked up with the series, plot, and its characters that they always want more. Will there be a seventh season of Vikings?

News Regarding Vikings Season 7

The trailer of the second half of season six included “ The Saga comes to an end ” which indicates that season six was intended to complete the legendary Vikings story. The showrunner expressed in an interview that he felt that six seasons and 89 episodes were enough to completely and engagingly depict the Tale of Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons.

The creators believe that there isn’t much to tell in the current setting of the show and that they closed it perfectly ending every character’s arc with justice.

A New Series

Season 6 marks the end of The Saga of Ragnar Lothbrok and his Sons (Bjorn, Ubbe, Ivar, Hvitserk) but that certainly doesn’t mark the end of Vikings. What the show Vikings depicted was the beginning and rise of Viking warriors to explore and conquer the West.

There is more to Vikings story hence it was announced in November 2019 that a new Vikings story will be developed as a sequel/spin-off to the original one by the name of Vikings: Valhalla. Vikings creator, Michael Hirst, will be on board with this season along with screenwriter Jeb Stuart who will co-create, write and produce the sequel.

Plot of the Sequel/Spin-Off

Vikings: Valhalla will be set 100 years after the events of The Saga of Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons. It will feature other Viking personalities like explorer Erik the Red and his son Leif. The series will also feature Norman King William the Conqueror and might involve King Edward the Confessor as well.

Since the original Vikings will be of influence here we may get to see Easter eggs regarding Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons. Erik the Explorer might reach North America and find Ubbe’s settlement there or they might hear stories about the attack on Wessex by Ivar and Hvitserk.

Ragnar’s hometown Kattegat, a town grown into one of the largest trading ports by the end of Season 6 may be one of the important cities in the new series.

Final Words

Season 6 might be the end of the famous season that started in 2013. Maybe Vikings ended when Ragnar died but his sons pulled off the show amazingly as well. It’s time for a new Vikings era now!
