Monkey D. Luffy is a fictional character in a hit manga series named One Piece by Eichiro Oda. The manga was later on adapted into animation in 1999 under Toei Animation and it’s still ongoing until today. He is widely known as ” Strawhat Luffy ” or ” Strawhat ” and he is the main protagonist of the said series.
Luffy’s dream is to be the Pirate King and to find out Gol D. Roger’s treasure ” One Piece ” hence the name of the series where it was derived. Monkey D. Luffy is the captain of the infamous and strong Strawhat Pirates. He wants to have 10 members of his crew and now there are already 9 members. There are lots of theories about whom he will choose as the 10th member.
Namely, Zoro the first member and swordsman of the group. Nami, the navigator, Usopp as the sniper. Sanji as the cook, Chopper as the doctor, Robin as one of the brains of the group, Franky as the shipwright as well as creator of weapons in collaboration with Usopp, Brooke as one of the swordsman as well as the musician, and Jinbei the last to be recruited as the member as of now, a former Shichibukai and a Fishman who excels in hand-to-hand combat.
Born in Foosha village, son of Monkey D. Dragon the one who leads the Revolutionary Army and grandson of the famous Marine Hero Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp.
What’s the Meaning of Monkey D. Luffy?
The meaning of the initial “D” is not yet revealed. It is often referred to as the Will of D. Only a few bearers of the initials know the meaning. The initial is passed down from generation to generation and was often mentioned by the World government as a danger.
later on, it was revealed that the family of “D” are the Natural Enemy of the Gods. These Gods who are mentioned are called Celestial Dragons in the series. They consist of aristocrats directly descendant of nineteen of the Twenty Kings who established the World Government.
Why Monkey D. Luffy is Called Straw Hat Luffy?
Luffy rounded and dark eyes and he has dark black disheveled hair. The body shows a slender burly build. He is famous for his emblem stubble hat and this hat gave him the nickname straw hat Luffy. Monkey D. Luffy is also recognized as “Straw Hat Luffy” or generally called “Straw Hat”.
The hat was lent to him by one of the Four Emperors of the sea, the famous Captain “Red-Haired” Shanks when he was young. The straw hat was first seen worn by the legendary Pirate Gol D. Roger and was revealed that Shanks was a former crew of Roger Pirates.
Luffy considers it as one of his treasures. He is often seen wearing the hat but occasionally he gives it to other straw hat crew for safekeeping. Shanks and Luffy had a promise that he must return the straw hat to Shanks once he becomes the Pirate King.
Although a similar strawhat was seen in the Marigeoise. The strawhat is bigger compared to what Luffy is wearing. It was shown as if the World Government is keeping it underground which caused the fans to create theories about it.
Monkey D. Luffy’s Powers
Luffy is certainly a dynamo warrior in contempt to his usual frame he can go up against strong opponents in the series. He was often underestimated by his opponents due to his physical appearance but often prove them wrong.
His physical strength increasingly develops during his battles but it was started when he was young. Luffy was trained by his grandfather Garp with his harsh and unorthodox method of teaching. His raw strength was improved due to the rigorous training he had experienced.
He also ate a devil fruit named “Gomu Gomu no mi” at a young age making his body seem like a rubber. His body became more durable, stretchable, and made him stronger. He was often seen improving his devil fruit every fight. These affect his agility, reflexes, speed, durability, and endurance.
Luffy is also a skillful user of all sorts of Haki and has proved his exceptional skills in all three classes hitherto. Notwithstanding this Luffy’s chief weapon is his aura, it is that magnetism that has directed to him rising many allies and followers and all those cronies would be required if Luffy is to justly turn out to be Pirate King.
He is seen to grow his strength through psychology, his willpower is so strong that even if he’s already at his limit, he can still continue to fight his opponents.
