Despicable Me was surely one of the most popular movies by Universal Pictures. In fact, it is one of the very few movies in which the supporting characters (Minions) got way more popular than the main characters.
Soon after the release of this movie, the minions gained viral popularity. However, this does not mean that Gru is any less of an important character in the movie.
Who is Gru?
Gru is an evil mastermind from Despicable Me. He hatches the most peculiar evil plan in history as he attempts to steal the moon.
Gru, along with his elderly assistant and his huge army of super adorable minions, set on this mission to shrink and steal the Earth’s moon. However, he needs to get the shrink ray from Vector (another evil mastermind) to shrink the moon before stealing it.
And the problem is that Vector’s fortress is virtually impenetrable. There are strong security precautions against anyone entering the place unauthorized. Gru tries his absolute best, but he is not able to get the Shrink ray.
Then he sees a group of three orphan girls getting the easiest access to Vector’s fortress when they are selling cookies for Miss Hattie, their orphanage Matron. Gru sees the girls as a potential weapon to get access to the fortress and steal the Shrink Ray. Therefore, he adopts the three little girls with the plan to return them later.
Now, you can probably guess what happens when you put three naughty girls together with an evil mastermind. Gru’s attempts at parenting are hilarious and quite entertaining, along with all the help from the minions. However, as the movie progresses, the girls began to see Gru as their father, and consequently, his heart starts to soften for the girls.
How Tall is Gru?
Like most animated characters, there is some inconsistency in the height of Gru according to different viewers. When you google the question “How tall is Gru from “Despicable Me“? You are likely to get an answer of approximately 14 feet tall.
And you don’t have to be an expert to realize that this is an enormously huge figure. If that was true, Gru would be twice as tall an average basketball player. This seems completely unreasonable.
Is Gru Really 14 Feet Tall?
In short: no, Gru is probably not 14 feet (4.25 m) tall. In reality, Gru is about four minions tall. And each minion is about 2 feet (60 cm) tall. So, that makes Gru about 8 feet tall (2.40 m).
Although this is still much taller than an average human, or even a super tall human, at least it is not 14 feet.
